AIDS Walk 2009

The Spelman College Environmental Task Force was proud to participate in the 2009 AIDS Walk Atlanta and 5k Run on Sunday, October 18th, 2009. Together with members from the AUC’s NSBE, we showed our support for the largest and most visible fundraising event for AIDS in the southeast and important work to stop the spread of HIV and optimize the lives of those living with HIV/AIDS. This was an important event for the ETF as the Atlanta metropolitan area had the 5th highest number of AIDS cases in the country in 2007, and many of our brother and sisters living in the AUC are a part of this disturbing statistic. The AIDS pandemic is also a concern for members of the Environmental Task Force because it disproportionately affects communities of color within the African Diaspora as well as impacts human capacity, natural resource and land use management and finally environmental policy as it relates to poverty and environmental health.
